This is a gorgeous Edwardian letter opener fashioned as a ruler and marked with inches along one side. The ruler is cut at an angle at one end. The inch measurements are accurate and the ruler provides a straight line for underlining. It was made by Drew and Sons and is hallmarked for London, 1901. The firm was founded by Samuel Summers Drew in 1844. In 1901, when the piece was made, they were based at 33 Piccadilly Circus and 156 Leadenhall Street in London. The firm ceased trading in 1930s.
