This is a rare and striking Art Nouveau chased silver bowl with chrysanthemums in Japanese style. The bowl was made by George Nathan and Ridley Hayes, and is fully marked for Chester, 1908. Their first joint mark was registered in 1897, and had their main office at 128 Icknield Street, Birmingham. They continued trading until the 1930s. The bowl is a striking display of great design and imagination, where beauty and utility are harmoniously combined in an object of everyday use.
