This is a nice late Georgian silver caddy spoon with a beautifully moulded shell bowl and frosted leaves motifs. The handle finishes with a scalloped edge and an inscribed cartouche. The firm comes from a long lasting family of silversmiths, founded in 1725 by David Hennell. The object was made by David’s nephew, Robert Hennell II, three years before his retirement in 1833. The firm was later sold to Holland, Aldwinckle and Slater in 1887.
The silver caddy presents HR, the Lion passant, the London assay mark, and date letter “p” for 1830.
